Calgary Allied Arts Foundation
Art Acquisition Program
Purpose
Calgary Allied Arts Foundation (CAAF) has a long and distinguished history in the Calgary arts community in its role as advisor to City Council on the City of Calgary Civic Art Collection. The role of CAAF is to advise City Council on the Civic Art Collection as well as issues and policies on behalf of the visual arts community. In partnership with the City of Calgary, CAAFs vision is to profile Calgary as a leading visual arts centre.
The CAAF Mission is to provide stewardship, promote and exhibit the Civic Art Collection. The collection, property of the City of Calgary, consists of over 700 artworks as of 2003. The collection is an irreplaceable public asset, including works by such artists as Marion Nicoll, Chris Cran, Katie Ohe, Greg Payce, with recent acquisitions from Calgary artists Bill Morton and John Eisler.
One of the key roles of the Calgary Allied Arts Foundation, with the aid of the Endowment Funds, is to acquire works of art for the City of Calgary Civic Arts Collection. With this goal in mind, we have started our first annual call for Art Acquisition through Slide Submission, in which we invite local and regional artists to submit slides of their work for purchase and inclusion into the Civic Art Collection. This is not only an exciting new opportunity for artists to sell their work at market value, but to contribute to on ongoing legacy that is accessible to Calgarians and visitors through a variety of public programming.
